Nobody’s born a runner. You’re made one — one run at a time, however slow, however far. If you run, you’re a runner. That’s the only qualification Caversham Running Club asks for.
You’re one of us whether you’re on your tenth marathon or your first 5k. Chasing a time, chasing a distance you’ve never run before, chasing the simple win of getting out the door — it’s all the same instinct, and it’s all worth chasing together.
And we’re all plodding some days, some of us more than others. Because the real reason we’re here isn’t the times on the watch — it’s the company on the way round. It’s building each other up, showing up for the people next to you, and growing something that’s bigger than any one run. That part shouldn’t be rushed. It’s the whole point.
A small nod to local history: William Marshal, once called the greatest knight of his age, died in Caversham in 1219 — the younger son of a minor noble with no lands to inherit, who built everything he had from nothing. It’s part of why “made, not born” felt right for us and why we adopted the colours and the lion and lioness from his coat of arms. But you don’t need to know any of that to belong here. You just need to show up.
However fast you’re going, you’re exactly where you should be.
