Caversham Running Club started from nothing — which felt right, because that’s exactly the point.
We’re starting from scratch on purpose, so that it can become exactly what its members need it to be, not what any one person decided it should look like on day one.
What that looks like right now:
We’ll start with one run a week — Sundays, all welcome, whatever pace you’re at. No one’s turned away for being too slow, too new, or too unsure. If you run, you’re a runner, and that’s enough to belong here.
As we grow, we’ll add a midweek session too. But don’t expect a prescribed session or a set workout — there are far better resources out there than us for structured training plans, and plenty of members will already have their own. What midweek is really for is simpler than that: it’s for getting a run done together. Some weeks that might be a second easy social run. Some weeks it might be whatever people fancy that day. The point isn’t the workout — it’s the company, especially through the darker winter months, when running with others isn’t just nicer, it’s safer.
And beyond that, it’s genuinely up to you -
If a few of you are training for the same event and want to link up, great.
If a group of parents on parental leave want to get a midweek daytime run in with the pram, absolutely — that’s exactly the kind of thing this club is for.
If people fancy meeting for a pint on a Friday, go for it — you don’t even have to have run that day.
If you want to arrange your own session and invite others along, do it. This club works because its members shape it, not because it waits to be told what to do.
Caversham Running Club is what we all make it. Made, not born — just like the club itself.
Caversham Running Club is getting ready to launch this autumn — and right now, we’re looking for a small group of people to help shape it before that first session.
If you believe Caversham deserves a running community that’s genuinely open to everyone — whoever you are, whatever pace you run — and you’ve got a bit of time and enthusiasm to help get it off the ground, we’d love to hear from you.
No experience necessary. We’re not looking for a ready-made committee — just people who care about the idea and want to help build something good from the start. That might mean helping plan routes and sessions, spreading the word locally, or simply being one of the first friendly faces new members meet. Whatever you can offer, there’s a place for you in getting this started.
We can’t wait to get moving — and we’d love you to be part of it from day one.
